Overview
We are looking for a senior systems engineer with extensive experience in similar roles within large‑scale, complex, global organisations. The candidate should be proficient in technology strategy and roadmap planning, technology engineering, lifecycle planning and delivery, product selection (including business case planning), and technical project delivery from conception through to transition into production. Broader skills such as commercial awareness, evangelism, delivery focus, secure‑by‑design mindset and strong operations and customer awareness complete the profile.
In‑depth architectural and design level experience with Microsoft M365, Email / Exchange, Colleague Data, SharePoint, Generative AI, Microsoft Copilot, Copilot agents, Power Platform, and related technologies is required.
Responsibilities
* Own and drive the design and adoption of collaboration technologies across multiple infrastructure domains, ensuring engineering effectiveness and strategic alignment. Deliver new technologies that enable Tesco colleagues to be more productive and efficient.
* Represent Infrastructure/Systems Engineering across Tesco Technology and with suppliers, demonstrating strategic and critical thinking in all interactions.
* Own and drive the architectural strategy and roadmap for Collaboration technologies, Gen AI, and Copilot technologies.
* Drive implementation of solutions that introduce new technologies in line with Tesco’s technology strategy and principles.
* Support standards and guidance for new technologies.
* Influence product roadmaps for the technology area.
* Contribute to commercial arrangements when dealing with technology vendors.
* Ensure solutions improve the security baseline of the collaboration offerings.
* Work with infrastructure architects, product managers, and third‑party consultants to align solution and product strategy.
* Manage the full project lifecycle, driving solutions from conception to operational handover.
* Maintain technical skills and track new technologies.
* Design with automation in mind, creating solutions that minimise hands‑on activity required to fix issues.
* Define, analyse, plan, forecast, measure, maintain, and improve all aspects of service availability.
* Explore and identify opportunities for business and service improvement.
* Remain aware of emerging technologies outside the specialism.
* Handle high‑impact changes and projects in Infrastructure Services proactively to ensure service stability.
Qualifications
Ideally, the candidate should have 6 years in a mid‑senior IT technical role, with proven experience of technology delivery in the specified domain. In Tesco, this would mean 3‑4 successful years as a Systems Engineer II, demonstrating core capabilities expected of a Systems Engineer III.
Technical Skills
* Expert‑level knowledge of the M365 product stack, including licensing models.
* Strong background in Generative AI and Copilot solutions, including agents at scale.
* Domain admin / identity management experience at a large, complex global enterprise.
* Expert‑level Power Platform and related technologies.
* Solid SharePoint experience.
* Deep understanding of data technologies, both on‑premises and cloud.
* In‑depth knowledge of data security, archiving, retention and recovery.
* Experience with VMWare and Azure virtual platform technologies.
* General awareness of digital/modern workplace technologies.
* Strong knowledge of Windows security, auditing and best practices.
* Advanced PowerShell scripting and automation focused on Windows Infrastructure/Platform.
* Good understanding of networking and firewall concepts.
* Strategic mindset, able to articulate technology vision and underpinning roadmap.
Commercial and Business Skills
* Initiate proof of concept and pilot activities.
* Support business cases, evaluating suitable products and commercial impact.
* Understand and apply budgeting and procurement processes at Tesco.
* Structure and present technology business cases or proposals.
Leadership & Potentials
* Collaborate with wider teams to drive enterprise design.
* Coaching and mentoring to achieve team objectives.
* Introduce new tools and methodologies to improve efficiency.
* Adapt to changes in technology or support scope.
* Prepare and maintain technical documents and presentations.
* Communicate effectively with leaders and engineers in written and spoken English.
* Experience in designing and driving large‑scale service improvement projects.
