We are looking for a committed and enthusiastic individual to work in Specimen Reception at our University Hospital Coventry site and our George Eliot site in Nuneaton.
We are looking for individuals who can work accurately under pressure and are patient focused. Duties will include receipt, sorting and processing of samples, aiding laboratory staff in some aspects of technical work, and entry of patient data onto the pathology computer system.
Good literacy, numeracy and communication skills are required, as are intermediate IT skills. You should have the ability to work as part of a team and to manage your own workload. Previous experience of data entry or working in a diagnostic pathology environment would be advantageous; however, full training will be given to the successful candidates.
Responsibilities
* Input accurate and timely patient and specimen data onto Trust computerised systems.
* Safe disposal of contaminated materials, including sharps and confidential waste.
* Act as the first point of contact for all telephone and face‑to‑face enquiries, dealing in a professional manner.
* Sort and identify specimens received, and take appropriate action in the event of any discrepancies.
* Prepare samples for testing by laboratory staff and provide support with basic laboratory tasks as required by the supervisor.
* Dispatch and post samples to authorised persons and outside laboratories, ensuring compliance with all statutory regulations.
* Undertake agreed clinical and non‑clinical tasks following training, ensuring referral to appropriate trained staff as required.
Under supervision and according to Standard Operative Procedures, perform basic duties within the laboratory supporting other staff within the team while providing optimum patient care.
Interviews will take place on 18th May 2026. Successful applicants will be required to provide an immunisation and vaccination report, either from their current UK occupational health provider or from their UK GP.
