We’re looking for an innovative person to support the Environment Agency’s drive to reduce pollution from the water industry, through annual Pollution Incident Reduction Plans (PIRPs) and linking into longer-term planning frameworks. Your co-ordinated management of this work will achieve strategically important benefits for the environment and the Environment Agency.
In this role, you’ll be responsible for:
* Developing legislation and statutory guidance with Defra, liaising with other internal teams on connected work areas.
* Liaising with water companies and stakeholders to develop and produce statutory guidance.
* Building relationships, in particular working with other national and operational colleagues in connected work areas.
* Supporting the consultation process for the new statutory guidance.
* Providing regular governance updates and producing internal guidance and training.
You will be working with senior managers, legal services, operations, communications, finance and business planning. You will be able to work on your own initiative maintaining effective communication with your team and customers.

The team
You’ll form part of the Water Quality Assets Team, in Operation Catchment Services within our Environment and Business directorate, with a focus on working with Defra, water companies and other stakeholders on new guidance and coordinating the public consultation. We are a dispersed team and work with a wide range of technical / project teams across the country. Therefore, the location is flexible and some travel and overnight stays may be required.
Experience/skills Required
* Good knowledge and experience of water quality, environmental legislation, wastewater discharge regulation, Pollution Incident Reduction Plans.
* Experience of partnering and building and maintaining relationships, acting as a key interface with customers.
* Ability to articulate business needs effectively, understanding of business concepts and application in the Water Industry sector.
* Self-starter, motivated to achieve outcomes with an appetite to work collaboratively across teams and with our stakeholders and partners towards a common goal.
* Ability to problem solve and raise emerging threats/issues as required.
* Experience of working with Defra and / or other Government departments is advantageous.
Contact and additional information
You’ll have an incident management objective in your development plan. We’ll support you to find an incident role to suit your needs and circumstances. Appropriate training will be given.
You’ll have an EA Office base location, as a national role the working location is flexible.
We use smart tools to stay connected and reduce travel, some travel and overnights may be required.
