Consultant Oesophago‑Gastric and General Surgeon
Full‑time permanent Consultant Oesophago‑Gastric (OG) and General Surgeon for Nottingham University Hospitals (NUH) NHS Trust starting January 2026.
The post holder will work alongside other Upper GI (UGI) and General Surgeons and report to the Head of Service for OG surgery and the Clinical Director for Surgery and Associated Services.
The successful candidate will have passed the Intercollegiate exam in General Surgery (or equivalent) and be awarded their CCT by the start date. Applicants are expected to have extensive experience, including a post‑CCT fellowship, in OG surgery and emergency general surgery.
This post supports provision of Oesophago‑Gastric and General Surgery at NUH and outreach activity at Sherwood Forest Hospitals or United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS Trust. It includes participation in the Emergency General Surgery rota at QMC for out‑of‑hours cover.
Patients are from a wide area, with referrals from other hospitals, covering conditions such as Oesophageal and Gastric cancers, gastro‑oesophageal reflux disease, gastro‑intestinal stromal tumours (GIST), hiatus hernia, achalasia and Barrett’s oesophagus.
The unit is the second largest OG cancer centre in the country and involves teaching, research, and innovation.
Responsibilities
* Provide OG and general surgical care within the UGI unit.
* Participate in the emergency general surgery rota and out‑of‑hours cover.
* Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including surgeons, oncologists, gastroenterologists, radiologists, and allied health professionals.
* Engage in teaching, research, and innovation activities.
Qualifications
* Passed Intercollegiate exam in General Surgery (or equivalent).
* Awarded CCT by the start date.
* Extensive experience in OG surgery, including post‑CCT fellowship.
* Experience in emergency general surgery.
