Overview
This is a locum post for six months, a 10 PA appointment for a Consultant Paediatric Anaesthetist. The post will be offered with a six‑month contract and will deliver 10 PAs in support of the paediatric anaesthetic team at Leeds Teaching Hospitals, based at Leeds General Infirmary (LGI) or St James' University Hospital depending on service needs and candidate skills and experience. The successful applicant will join an established team of over 150 Consultants.

Main duties of the job
* To work with other consultant colleagues in the provision of a comprehensive anaesthetic service in the Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trust.
* To develop and/or consolidate expertise in Paediatric Anaesthesia.
* To maintain and expand the excellence of teaching and research within the Trust.
* To support service plans for the specialty, taking account of changes in clinical practice and new technologies.
* To participate in and progress Clinical Governance.
* To contribute to undergraduate teaching for the School of Medicine, University of Leeds, and to collaborate with clinical colleagues on undergraduate teaching in accordance with the Trust contract with the NHS Executive and the University of Leeds.
* To contribute to postgraduate teaching, including the SpRs in anaesthesia in the Yorkshire Deanery.
Responsibilities and duties
As part of the Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, you will contribute to clinical audit, clinical governance and continuing professional development in line with GMC requirements and the Trust policies.
Qualifications and eligibility
* FRCA or equivalent qualification.
* Eligible for full GMC registration with a current licence to practice.
* Eligibility to work in the UK.
* Must have completed at least 12 months in a recognised paediatric anaesthesia training programme.
* Demonstrable English language proficiency as required (see below in English language requirements).
Experience
* Must demonstrate high level clinical experience and competence in paediatric anaesthesia, with advanced training in this area.
* Experience in training undergraduate medical students and postgraduate doctors; experience with clinical audits is desirable.
* Evidence of ongoing professional development and ability to work effectively within a team.
English language requirements
* Applicants must demonstrate English language proficiency by one of the following: undergraduate medical training in English; IELTS overall score 7.0 with minimum 7.0 in each component; or OET in medicine at minimum Grade B in all four components.
Teaching and training
* The post holder will contribute to undergraduate teaching for the School of Medicine, University of Leeds, and will collaborate with colleagues to deliver undergraduate teaching in accordance with the Trust contract with the NHS Executive and the University of Leeds. The appointee will also contribute to postgraduate teaching, including the SpRs in anaesthesia in the Yorkshire Deanery.
Job plan and working arrangements
* The job plan comprises 10 PAs (8.5 PAs direct clinical care; 1.5 PAs supporting professional activity).
* Rota planning will ensure robust cover in collaboration with colleagues.
* Accountability: to the Chief Executive for resources and to the Chief Medical Officer via Clinical Directors; subject to Trust management arrangements.
* Standards of conduct and behaviour: in line with GMC Good Medical Practice; adherence to appraisal and local policies.
* Leave, training, CME and other employment terms follow the Trust policies.
* Secretarial support and IT facilities will be provided.

* Discharge and DBS (Disclosures) checks as required by the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1975 and Trust policy.
