The role

SEMH Support Assistant (KS1/KS2) – Outskirts of Truro

Full Time | September Start | Long-Term to Permanent Opportunity

Competitive Daily Rate (Dependent on Experience)

Are you someone who thrives on supporting children beyond the classroom academically — making a real difference to their confidence, behaviour, and wellbeing?

Teaching Personnel is working with a supportive primary school in Truro looking for a dedicated SEMH Support Assistant to join their team this September. This is a full-time, long-term role with genuine potential to become permanent for the right individual.

About the Role

This is a rewarding opportunity to support pupils across KS1 and KS2 who require additional help with their social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs.

You will play a key role in helping pupils regulate emotions, build positive relationships, and re-engage with learning. This is a role where no two days are the same, but every day makes a difference.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Providing 1:1 and small group support for pupils with SEMH needs
  • Supporting emotional regulation, behaviour management, and engagement in learning
  • Acting as a positive role model, building strong and trusting relationships
  • Implementing nurture-based and trauma-informed approaches
  • Supporting children both inside and outside the classroom (including break/lunchtimes where required)
  • Working closely with teachers and SENCo to deliver personalised support strategies

What We’re Looking For

  • Experience working with children or young people with SEMH / SEN needs (school-based or transferable settings)
  • A calm, patient, and resilient personality — able to de-escalate and support behaviour positively
  • A genuine passion for helping children overcome barriers to learning
  • Understanding of (or willingness to learn) trauma-informed or nurture-based approaches
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Backgrounds in education, care, youth work or coaching are highly desirable

Why This Role?

  • Truly rewarding opportunity to make a lasting impact on young lives
  • Long-term role with potential to secure a permanent contract
  • Join a supportive school team with a strong focus on inclusion
  • Based in Truro with excellent transport links
  • Ideal for those looking to build a career in education, psychology or SEN support

Why Join Teaching Personnel?

  • Dedicated local consultant who understands the Truro school network
  • Access to a wide range of SEN & SEMH opportunities across Mid Cornwall
  • Ongoing CPD training, including behaviour & safeguarding
  • Support in securing long-term and permanent roles
