Senior Sister/Charge Nurse - Emergency Department
The Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust
Are you looking for your next career step in the Emergency Department? Are you currently a senior charge nurse, or perhaps looking to develop into your first band 7 role within emergency care? Then we want to hear from you!
We have expanded our department and are seeking passionate, dedicated, and caring experienced emergency care nurses to join our team who share our vision for excellence. Experience of shift leading and managing patient flow is essential, as is the ability to dynamically stream patients to the appropriate caregiver. You must be forward-thinking and committed to the evolving needs of the department, proactively working to improve the experience of the public accessing our emergency services daily.
We are a diverse team committed to ongoing improvement and will support your development and enhancement of knowledge in emergency medicine, leadership, and management skills.
You will be responsible for the care and development of junior colleagues and student nurses, fostering a learning environment, while planning, providing, and maintaining high standards of nursing care for our patients and their families.
If you seek a rewarding and challenging new role, we would very much like to hear from you.
Main duties of the job
As a Senior Sister/Charge Nurse in the Emergency Department, you will ensure the delivery of safe, effective, high-quality care 24/7. You will lead clinical duties, explore safe service provision through skill-mix review and workload allocation, and collaborate with senior staff including the associate director of nursing, head of nursing, matrons, clinical service groups, other wards, and wider healthcare services.
You will support staff development, create a learning environment, and continuously enhance your own knowledge and skills to uphold clinical standards. The department is one of the busiest in the country, assessing and treating over 100,000 patients annually, with specialized areas including resuscitation, majors, rapid assessment and treatment, streaming, and respiratory care. It is supported by a large Urgent Treatment Centre, including a GP stream and Minor Injury Unit.
