Cambridge Vascular Studies Unit (VSU)
Clinical Vascular Scientist - Band 7

The Cambridge VSU have a great opportunity for an accredited clinical vascular scientist to join our team of 9 vascular scientists, 1 coordinator and 2 HCSW in an IQIPS/UKAS accredited department. Applications from non-accredited vascular scientists or those completing the vascular STP will be considered.

You will be responsible for independently performing, interpreting and reporting a range of specialised non-invasive vascular ultrasound and physiology investigations for the diagnosis and surveillance of peripheral vascular disease.

Located in the Addenbrooke's Treatment Centre (ATC) the purpose built, air-conditioned unit with 4 scanning rooms, a large office and waiting area. The unit has 5 new duplex ultrasound machines. We work closely with the 12 consultant vascular surgeons, interventional radiologists, vascular registrars, vascular specialist nurses plus a team of junior doctors. CUH is the arterial centre for the centralised vascular network.

20% non-clinical time per week is supported, during this time it is encouraged to perform tasks to help with the smooth-running of the VSU, contribute to maintaining IQIPS accreditation, take part in clinical audit/service evaluation. They will also take responsibility for their own CPD. Cambridge VSU support the attendance of the post-holder to at least one national conference or meeting per year.

You are responsible for independently performing, interpreting and reporting a comprehensive range of highly specialised non-invasive vascular ultrasound and physiology investigations for the diagnosis and surveillance of peripheral vascular disease. Referrals are received directly from surgeons and clinicians based at Cambridge University Hospital and from hospitals within the centralised network. Investigations are performed in the Vascular Studies Unit (VSU), outpatient clinics, on the wards, ICU, NCCU, theatre and recovery.

You are also required to perform tasks to help with the smooth-running of the VSU, contribute to the departmental effort towards maintaining IQIPS accreditation, take part in clinical research/audit and take responsibility for his/her own continuing professional development.

Obtaining and maintaining CSVS accreditation is essential for this role.
