Founded in 2023, the Plymouth Independent has quickly become a leading local news org and a vital public service in Massachusetts, delivering robust, trustworthy journalism to Plymouth. In just over a year, they've achieved remarkable milestones:
* growing to nearly 30,000 daily e-news subscribers,
* securing support from more than 2,000 individual donors who fuel 100% of the PI's operating budget.
Most notably, the PI has received a $1 million challenge gift to seed a permanent endowment.
About the Role
This is a unique opportunity for an entrepreneurial fundraising leader to expand a comprehensive philanthropy program, building on a foundation of support Catalyst has helped the organization establish over the past year. Working closely with Editor & CEO Mark Pothier and an engaged board of accomplished Plymouth residents, the CDO will be the architect of the organization's philanthropic future, with a primary focus on cultivating major donors who share a passion for independent journalism and civic impact.
Responsibilities
* Expand a comprehensive philanthropy program.
* Work closely with the Editor & CEO and the board.
Qualifications
* 10+ years of major gift fundraising experience.
* Demonstrated success in five-to-seven-figure solicitations.
* Experience in mission-driven startup environments.
* Belief in local journalism's role in strengthening democracy and community life.
Required Skills
* Ability to engage with major donors.
* Strategic thinking and planning.
* Community relationship-building
Preferred Skills
* Experience in journalism or media organizations.
* Knowledge of philanthropic trends.
Pay range and compensation package
$125,000 with additional bonus incentive of $25,000 and a comprehensive benefits package.
