This is an exciting opportunity for a Specialty Doctor to join the Rheumatology Team at East Lancashire Hospital for a 12 month fixed term post. The successful candidate will receive full exposure to the full range of the Rheumatology speciality work. The appointee will participate in the Rheumatology outpatient clinics, assist the Rheumatologist of the Week, review rheumatology inpatients, and support the multidisciplinary team. The appointee will be expected to undertake audit and quality improvement projects, as well as to attend clinical governance meetings, mortality and morbidity meetings, regional and national educational meetings. Research activity is encouraged.
Main duties of the job
DUTIES OF THE POST
The post holder will participate in the Rheumatology outpatient clinics, assist the Rheumatologist of the Week covering wards, review rheumatology inpatients, and support the multidisciplinary team. In addition, there will be opportunities to attend various collaborative MDT meetings, develop skills in joint injections and MSK ultrasound, and undertake audit/quality improvement and research work.
Clinical: The post holder will be responsible, for both inpatient and outpatient work.
· Inpatient: The post holder will be expected to assist in seeing in-patient referrals, attend consultant ward rounds and perform ward-related work relating to patients under the care of the supervising consultant(s).
· Outpatient: The post holder will attend supervised clinics and review patients in an out-patient setting including day case clinics where joint injection procedures are conducted.
Two, weekly clinics and fortnightly injection clinics will form part of the weekly timetable. There will be time set aside for departmental teaching and personal development.
On call rota: There is no out-of-hours on-call responsibilities for this post.
Administration Duties:
· These include completing clinical administrative tasks relating to out-patient clinics, and ward work such as inpatient discharge summaries, outpatient letters etc
