Position Overview
Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking resident doctors to join our stroke unit team in Cheltenham General Hospital. As a resident doctor, you will play a crucial role in providing high‑quality care to patients suffering from strokes and related conditions.
Key Responsibilities
* Conduct thorough assessments of patients presenting with stroke symptoms, including neurological examinations and diagnostic tests.
* Gain skills in stroke and neurology assessment and management, general medical conditions, complex decision‑making, advanced care planning and palliative care.
* Collaborate with senior medical staff to develop comprehensive treatment plans tailored to each patient's needs, including medication management, rehabilitation programmes, and lifestyle modifications.
* Monitor patients' progress throughout their hospital stay and adjust treatment plans accordingly.
* Educate patients and their families about stroke prevention strategies, rehabilitation techniques, and community resources available for ongoing support post‑discharge.
About the Unit
The stroke unit is a 21‑bed hyperacute stroke unit with a direct admission pathway, providing thrombolysis onsite and onward referral for thrombectomy at Southmead Hospital in Bristol. We also operate a 32‑bed acute stroke unit for onward care and rehabilitation. The unit is busy and offers ample learning opportunities.
