Role Overview
The Head of Construction will oversee all aspects of major and minor construction projects within the Anglian Water region, ensuring they are completed on time, within budget, and to high quality standards. The role includes ensuring safety compliance and driving safety initiatives across all aspects of construction including processes and procedures and promoting a positive safety culture.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead and develop high-performing construction delivery teams, promoting collaboration, safety, and continuous improvement.
* Oversee the strategy and delivery of multiple complex construction projects, ensuring completion safely, on time, and within budget.
* Build and maintain strong stakeholder relationships across Anglian Water, Alliance partners, and external suppliers.
* Manage cost control, budgeting, and resource planning to maximise value and performance across all programmes.
* Foster a positive leadership culture by sharing best practices and celebrating team success.
* Motivate and support construction teams to achieve high performance and continuous development.
* Oversee all project phases from inception to completion, driving efficiencies through buildability, safety by design, and effective delivery.
* Manage self-delivery resource strategies to optimise utilisation and ensure sustainable allocation throughout construction.
* Build strong, long-term relationships with the supply chain, positioning Anglian Water as a preferred partner.
* Evaluate and support supply chain members, focusing on performance, innovation, and continuous improvement.
* Review project performance against budgets and identify cost-saving opportunities.
* Oversee resource and plant management to maximise utilisation and efficiency.
* Contribute to design development by providing buildability input and cost-effective solutions.
* Explore and implement innovative products, materials, and technologies to improve safety, quality, and cost efficiency.
* Promote collaboration and inclusivity across all teams, encouraging diverse perspectives and recognising contributions.
* Support the growth and development of team members through mentoring, training, and knowledge sharing.
* Identify and address skills gaps by implementing structured training and competency development programmes.
* Ensure all personnel complete full H&S E induction and adhere to safe working practices.
* Conduct regular safety audits and ensure compliance with all company procedures and the Working Time Directive.
* Report and investigate near misses to prevent future incidents and strengthen safety culture.
* Actively collaborate with management and H&S teams to enhance procedures and maintain a zero-accident environment.
Requirements
* Significant experience in large-scale construction management — ideally within the water, utilities or infrastructure sector.
* A deep understanding of construction techniques, engineering processes, and project planning.
* Strong leadership and communication skills with the ability to inspire and engage multidisciplinary teams.
* Proven experience managing budgets, contracts, and stakeholder relationships.
* A forward-thinking approach — open to innovation, collaboration and change.
* A valid UK driving licence.
