Chief Biomedical Scientist - Coagulation

The closing date is 30 June 2025

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a suitably qualified Biomedical Scientist to join us as a cross-network Chief Biomedical Scientist for Coagulation.

This is a full time role which will require the post holder to oversee laboratory Coagulation services at all sites within the SHYPS network. Applicants must be able to travel between Hull, York and Scarborough as part of their duties.

This is an exciting opportunity to play a crucial role in a fast changing laboratory coagulation service, including working closely with clinicians within the Haemophilia specialist team, and developing the service in line with new treatments and techniques.

The ability to transport yourself and equipment across the locality during the course of a normal working day is required for this vacancy


Main duties of the job

To be responsible for the day-to-day technical and scientific operational management within the department.

Play a key role in the provision of an efficient, high quality diagnostic service.

To be involved in shaping the strategic development of the department in consultation with the Head Biomedical Scientist.

To interpret and implement policies and procedures in order to meet the demands of the service.

To align and standardise procedures at each site and to seek opportunities for network improvements.

Ensure efficient planning, prioritisation and allocation of workload at both local and network level.

Person Specification


Qualifications and Training

* Biomedical Science (Hons) degree or acceptable equivalent with top up.
* Registered as a Biomedical Scientist with the HCPC and maintains professional registration.
* MSc or FIBMS equivalent.
* Has undertaken formal management training or attained a management qualification
* Fellowship of the Institute of Biomedical Sciences
* Evidence of formal audit training


Skills and Knowledge

* Has specialist knowledge across a range of work procedures and practices underpinned by theoretical knowledge.
* Understands and works within the remit of the Trust's confidentiality policy and Professional Codes of Conduct.
* Participates in Continuing Professional Development and initiates methods of flexible learning to assist in the self-development process.
* Undertakes training which may be deemed appropriate for personal, professional and service development.


Experience

* Has at least 6 years' post registration experience.
* Previous experience of laboratory accreditation assessment
* Previous experience of amendments to laboratory scope of practice
* Experience of recruitment process
* Demonstratable involvement in quality improvement or change management projects
