Applications are invited for an exciting opportunity to join our established Breast Imaging team as a Consultant Radiographer in Breast, with the additional responsibility of Director of Breast Screening for the North Lancashire and South Cumbria Breast Screening Service.
The North Lancashire and South Cumbria Breast Screening Service, as part of the University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Trust, operates Breast Screening and Symptomatic services from dedicated imaging units at the Royal Lancaster Infirmary, Furness General Hospital and Westmorland General Hospital.
In addition, we operate two mobile units in the community.
The North Lancashire and South Cumbria Breast Screening Service is a highly performing service for Breast Screening with a dedicated, caring and professional team of Consultant Radiologists, Consultant Radiographers, Advanced Practitioners, Mammographers, Assistant Practitioners, Clinical Support Workers, Programme Management and Administrators.
The unit is fully digital with a robust PACS system. Our Radiology team is also part of the strong and effective UHMB Breast Multidisciplinary Team alongside members of the Surgical, Histopathology, Breast Care Nurses and Oncology services.
Main duties of the job
This is a senior leadership post, combining advanced clinical practice with strategic oversight of a high-performing screening service. The Consultant Radiographer role offers the opportunity to shape and deliver expert clinical care across breast screening and symptomatic services, working closely with a multidisciplinary team to drive innovation, quality, and patient-centred care.
In addition to the core clinical post, the successful candidate will take on the responsibilities of Director of Breast Screening (DoBS), which attracts an additional responsibility allowance for leading and managing the NHS Breast Screening Programme (NHSBSP) across the region. These additional responsibilities are non-contractual and can be removed with three months' notice. The DoBS role includes liaison with NHS England and the regional Quality Assurance teams, service development, and performance oversight.

Working for our organisation
We operatefrom three main hospitals-Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, andUlverstonCommunity Health Centre.
FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.
WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.
All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies,daycase and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
This post holder will deliver autonomous clinical practice to an
equivalent level of a Consultant Radiologist. The post holder will
be responsible for:
1. The delivery of an integrated, responsive and effective Breast
Imaging diagnostic service
2. Provide a consultant service and carry out an expert practitioner
role, which will involve invasive procedures, interpreting and
reporting images, making a diagnosis and recommending further
action
3. Provide clinical leadership of the team and ensure compliance
with national standards.
4. The post holder will provide a person-centred approach to care
and will seek to incorporate the user perspective in future
developments; they will bring innovation and influence to enhance
the service and improve outcomes for patients. They will be
responsible for the progression of the department to meet
increasing demands on service provision and new imaging
techniques. They will collaborate with other professional groups
across boundaries to provide consultant level clinical leadership.

Qualifications
* BSc Radiography (or equivalent)
* HCPC Registered (or equivalent)
* PGc Advanced Mammography Practice or equivalent
* Evidence of CPD
* Educated to Masters Level
* PGc Teaching Qualification
* Leadership or Management Qualification
Experience
* Extensive experience in a Breast Diagnostic Setting
* NHS Breast Screening Experience in NHSBSP Recall to Assessment
* Experience in Evidence of Research and Development
* Experience facilitating MDTs Experience performing interventional procedures
* Evidence of Service Improvement or Change Management
* Evidence of Leadership experience
Skills
* IT literate competent with PACS/RIS/NBSS
