This role offers an opportunity for an experienced electrical engineer to assure all electrical activities, provide technical guidance, and ensure statutory compliance across multiple flood & coastal risk management and Water, Land & Biodiversity assets. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with various construction and design partners, acting as the knowledgeable person for the client. You will be a key member within the EA’s national network of senior engineers, working in partnership with the national electrical assurance and safety initiatives.
You will provide design and technical advice ensuring compliance with electrical legislation, British and European standards, and the EA’s codes of practice, procedures, and guidance.
With several high-voltage supplied assets in the area, you will serve as the Senior Appointed Person (High Voltage). Experience and training in working with high-voltage equipment are essential. Assessment will be conducted by the Environment Agency's appointed authorising engineer. You will also become part of our group of HV engineers across the EA.
You will ensure the technical capability and competence of staff, identifying areas for development. You will help plan and deliver crucial asset investments, including flood protection for homes, businesses, and the environment.
You will be expected to respond to incidents as part of your role, with additional payments available. Full training will be provided to support your incident response responsibilities.
The Team
You will work within the MEICA Operations team for the South-East Supra Area, covering Hertfordshire, North London, Kent, South London, and East Sussex. The team covers a wide range of technical specialisms known as MEICA (Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation, Control, and Automation), responsible for technical assurance of related projects and asset maintenance. You will provide technical support to team members.
Experience and Skills Required
* Qualified and experienced in the operation, maintenance, and safe management of high-voltage equipment, with the ability to be appointed as a 'Senior Appointed Person (SAP) High Voltage.'
* Comprehensive knowledge of electrical legislation, British and European standards.
* Proven experience as a Subject Matter Expert in Electrical Engineering, offering technical advice.
* Experience in ensuring the safety, reliability, and efficiency of complex electrical and instrumentation installations, including site work.
* Experience leading safety and technical investigations, with a focus on safety improvements.
* Strong technical leadership and influencing skills.
* Knowledge of Construction (Design & Management) Regulations (CDM2015), Health & Safety Regulations, BIM, and Asset Management systems.
* Chartered status with a professional body such as IET or IMECHE.
Additional Information
Salary: £52,929 per annum, with an additional £9,750 for Chartered MEICA engineers. London weighting may apply.

Location: Flexible working arrangements with a designated EA office near your home; UK Driving License required for site visits. Interviews scheduled for the week commencing 2nd June.
