Lead Neonatal Educator

The Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Foundation Trust (NLAG) operates two neonatal units: one at Scunthorpe General Hospital and one at Diana Princess of Wales Hospital, Grimsby. Both are Local Level 2 Neonatal Units providing Intensive Care, High Dependency, Special Care and Transitional Care for babies over 26+6 weeks gestation, and stabilising those below that gestation for transfer to tertiary NICUs.
Job Overview
A highly experienced neonatal nurse will develop and lead the neonatal education programme across NLAG in partnership with the Neonatal Education Lead at Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. The role ensures that education standards are met, staff are supported in continuous learning, and patient safety is embedded through robust incident review and improvement processes.
Main Responsibilities
* Plan, coordinate, deliver and evaluate neonatal education and training across NLAG.
* Collaborate with senior nursing and medical leaders, practice development teams and network educators to align education provision with national standards and local service needs.
* Support clinical and non‑clinical staff in learning from incidents, promote openness, reflection and continuous improvement.
* Monitor and evaluate implementation of actions from incidents and root cause analyses, ensuring lessons are embedded in practice and systems.
* Provide advice and training on processes to foster safe, high‑quality neonatal care in line with national and local standards.
* Lead the development and implementation of education policies and procedures.
Qualifications
* Registered RN (Adult/Child) with neonatal specialty.
* Experience in neonatal education and the ability to evaluate local practice against national and local standards.
* Teaching qualification.
* Registered NLS provider or equivalent.
* 1st Level degree or equivalent in nursing or a health‑related subject (or currently working towards one).
* Registered NLS instructor.
Knowledge & Skills
* In‑depth knowledge of neonatal education standards and competency frameworks.
* Excellent leadership, communication and organisational skills.
* Experience working across a neonatal network or with an ODN.
* Evidence of change management and improvement initiatives.
