Job Summary
Systemic Family Therapist – Children and Young People’s Intensive Support Hub (CYP ISH), Band 7, part‑time (30 hours per week). The CYP ISH is an 8 am–8 pm, 7‑day‑a‑week service launched in 2021, designed to support young people (aged 12‑18) and their families, prevent hospital admission, shorten inpatient stays, and facilitate community transition. The role requires a therapeutic approach that is trauma‑informed and family‑centred, with recent investment in Non‑Violent Resistance (NVR) techniques. Flexible working, including some evenings and weekends, may be required.
Responsibilities
* Deliver a full range of family treatments to all patients, including conjunctive family therapy, separated family therapy and multi‑family group therapy.
* Participate in assessments of patients referred for treatment and consult with multi‑disciplinary and multi‑agency colleagues on family treatment components.
* Assess family interactions, formulate connections to diagnostic factors, and recommend appropriate interventions.
* Communicate sensitively with clients, family carers and others regarding assessment, formulation and treatment plans, even when information is contentious or distressing.
* Monitor and evaluate progress during multidisciplinary care and provide timely reports on systemic assessment, formulation and treatment outcomes.
* Assist in managing the team caseload and maintain professional actions in line with occupational policies.
* Work in partnership with other disciplines and maintain links with statutory, non‑statutory and primary care agencies.
Qualifications
Essential:
* M.Sc./Post‑graduate Diploma in Systemic Psychotherapy/Family Therapy.
* UKCP registered family therapist.
* Additional qualification in a related profession (NMC, HCPC).
Desirable:
* NVR training and/or knowledge of child and adolescent mental health disorders.
Experience
Essential:
* Post‑qualifying experience commensurate with the role as a systemic/family psychotherapist working in health care or social care settings.
Knowledge
Essential:
* Skills in complex assessment, formulation, intervention and management requiring sustained, intense concentration and high analytical and judgmental skills.
Disclosure and Barring Service Check
This post requires a Disclosure and Barring Service check under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975.
