This role is an exciting opportunity for an experienced electrical engineer with knowledge of high, medium, low and extra‑low voltage electrical systems and equipment to join the Environment Agency’s Standards and Engineering team as a Senior Electrical Engineer. Expertise relating to control systems design and SCADA / telemetry systems would be beneficial.
You will be part of the Standards, Asset Management and Engineering Directorate, influencing and shaping how we deliver our service into the future. As part of our Technical Authority, you will provide technical engineering leadership and support to the whole organisation to meet objectives of safe, reliable and sustainable assets and the commitment to net‑zero carbon.
Your responsibilities include managing, developing and maintaining electrical engineering standards, including electrical safety rules for HV and LV power systems and control systems within assets such as pumping stations, water management and flood defence structures and monitoring sites. You will develop, deliver and maintain competency and skills guidance for employees working on electrical systems and equipment, and hold a national incident response role.
Qualifications
 * Good working knowledge of the Electricity at Work regulations and BS 7671 IET wiring regulations.
 * Knowledge and application of IEC 61508, IEC 62061, BS EN 13489 and telemetry / SCADA systems.
 * Knowledge of high and low voltage generation and distribution systems.
 * Experience in the development and delivery of safe systems of work, risk assessments and method statements.
 * Testing and isolation of high and low voltage electrical systems and proving dead.
 * Strong understanding of a risk‑based approach to electrical maintenance, including FMECA, reliability systems and processes.
 * Drafting and publishing of electrical policy, instructions and guidance.
 * Excellent work management, teamwork and communication skills.
Additional Information
This is a hybrid role with a base location near your home. Some travel and overnight stays may be required. You will have an incident management objective in your development plan and appropriate training will be given.
