We are seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join an expanding team with a leading NI Recycling Plant. You will be responsible for the design and development of large-scale static plant projects. This role will involve working closely with interdisciplinary teams to transform project requirements into innovative and efficient design solutions. Your technical expertise will be key to guiding projects through all phases and ensuring adherence to high-quality standards, deadlines, and budget management. Duties & Responsibilities: Project Design: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate project requirements into manufacturable product designs. CAD Modelling: Use CAD software (such as Solidworks) to create detailed 3D models and engineering drawings. Design Optimisation: Continuously optimise designs for cost-effectiveness, manufacturability, and efficiency, ensuring product integrity. Material Selection: Work with Senior Design Engineers to choose appropriate materials, considering both performance and cost. Collaboration: Communicate effectively with team members, suppliers, and other stakeholders to ensure smooth design-to-production transitions. Quality Assurance: Ensure that designs meet specifications and industry standards through proper quality control measures. Documentation: Create and maintain comprehensive design documentation, including Bills of Materials (BOMs), design reports, and other necessary documents. Regulatory Compliance: Stay up to date with industry regulations and ensure compliance with safety and quality standards. What You Will Need: Required Criteria: Degree or HNC/HND in Mechanical Engineering or a related field. Proven experience in mechanical design engineering, ideally in heavy industrial equipment, recycling, or materials handling. Proficiency in 3D CAD software (Solidworks). Strong understanding of fabrication, welding, and machining processes. Experience in structural design and materials selection. Ability to work both independently and within a small team. Desired Criteria: Experience designing conveyors, hoppers, trommels, or other materials handling equipment. Knowledge of finite element analysis (FEA) and other engineering analysis tools. Familiarity with Solidworks PDM for design and document management. Understanding of automation and control systems in an industrial environment.
