What will I be doing as an apprentice?

We are pleased to offer an exciting opportunity for an Asbestos Technician Apprentice to join our team, supporting the day-to-day delivery of asbestos surveying, sampling, and site inspections. You will provide technical assistance to ensure safety, compliance, and accurate reporting in line with regulatory and quality standards. This apprenticeship offers a strong foundation for a future career in asbestos management and surveying, with a wide range of practical and technical skill development in a safety-focused environment.

Summary of duties

* Engage in extensive learning, following training and procedures accurately
* Observe and learn from colleagues to develop technical skills
* Assist in managing laboratory tasks, preparing technical reports, and completing job-related records
* Carry out tests, inspections, and sample handling in line with quality and safety standards
* Maintain a safe, clean working environment and follow all health, safety, and emergency procedures
* Care for equipment, avoid waste, and report damage or faults promptly
* Support company promotion at fairs and conferences where required
* Contribute to risk assessments, incident reporting, and the company’s safety culture
* Produce reports and documentation for review and approval by senior staff

Note: You will be required to work night shifts in this role.

The future

Upon successful completion of the apprenticeship, there is potential for a full-time position within the company. Training includes on-the-job development and the possibility to pursue professional recognition such as RSciTech and other relevant qualifications in asbestos management.

Skills, Knowledge, and Experience

About you

You’re reliable, detail-oriented, practical, and comfortable working with tools and equipment in a variety of environments, including at heights and in confined spaces. You understand the importance of health and safety procedures, especially when handling hazardous materials, and you prioritise safety for yourself, your team, and the public. You’re personable, confident in meeting new people, eager to learn, able to stay calm under pressure, and a good team player with strong prioritisation skills.

Due to the nature of the role, you must be 18+ and have a valid UK driving license.

Experience

We value attitude, curiosity, and commitment. Previous experience is helpful but not essential. Applications are welcome from diverse backgrounds, including school or college leavers or individuals seeking to retrain.

Qualifications

It’s about enthusiasm and willingness to learn. The most successful apprentices are curious, self-reflective, and eager to develop in the sector.

How the apprenticeship works

Over 21 months, you’ll devote a minimum of 6 hours per week to off-the-job training, including theory (virtual lessons and online learning) and practical training (shadowing, mentoring, and assignments). This counts toward a Level 3 Asbestos Technician apprenticeship. You’ll be trained by a Tiro tutor and an experienced mentor at 4-Rail Services Limited who will support your development. You’ll earn a salary while gaining qualifications.

Eligibility

There are government-mandated minimum requirements for eligibility. Applicants must demonstrate that the program will provide learning beyond their current qualifications and experience. If you already hold a Level 3, degree, or equivalent, or have substantial relevant experience, you may not be eligible for apprenticeship funding. You’ll need to be over 18, not in full-time education, have lived in the UK for 3 years, and have the right to work in the UK. If you don’t meet these requirements, express interest and we will be in touch.

Note: Seniority level and employment type sections are not applicable as standalone content for this role in this refined description.
