The East Staffordshire Community Mental Health service invites applications for the position of Consultant in Old Age Psychiatry. This is a community consultant role within the Older Adult CMHT, a clinical pathway offering comprehensive community mental health services to the Staffordshire East localities.
This position enables dedicated consultant involvement in community care and treatment, with facilities for prompt assessment of referred patients, flexible review of complex cases, and timely discharge in coordination with General Practitioners. Service users will present with various mental health issues, including dementia.
The role involves providing clinical leadership to the team as part of a collective leadership structure, along with support and supervision to Specialty Doctors. There are opportunities within the Trust to participate in postgraduate and undergraduate education for Resident Doctors and medical students from Keele Medical School.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Ensure, in conjunction with the multidisciplinary team, effective review of patient care via assessments, follow-ups, and MDT meetings.
2. Act as Responsible Clinician for service users subject to Community Treatment Orders (CTO) where applicable.
3. Provide evidence-based, recovery-focused care.
4. Offer cross-cover (emergency and prospective) for other Consultant Psychiatrists by mutual agreement.
5. Communicate appropriately and timely with key partners, including GPs, service users, and carers.
6. Work within service contract requirements and comply with nationally agreed quality standards.
7. Utilize Trust IT systems effectively to fulfill clinical duties.
8. Participate in mental health assessments and out-of-hours duties; on-call work is remunerated at 3% plus 0.25 APAs.
