Role Overview The SCP will integrate into the existing surgical team to carry out their extended role which primarily includes assisting the consultant surgeon to facilitate the safe operating of the hospitals robotic surgical system within the sterile field Main duties will include but not confined to; safe positioning of the anesthetised patient, male & female catheterisation, skin preparation, sterile draping of the patient, incising skin and application of diathermy to tissue, insertion and fixation of drains, primary and secondary closure of surgical wounds. What you'll do: Uses best evidence, advanced specialist skills, knowledge and expertise to provide expert clinical care To integrate into the existing clinical structure and to support other professionals to manage the surgical patient pathways by collaborating with other principle team members. The SCP will undertake advanced practice as the bedside assistant to patients undergoing robotic or laparoscopic procedures including patient set up, insertion and removal of robotic and laparoscopic ports and instruments, application of haemostatic clips, hand held stapling devices, drain placement, wound closure and theatre turn around.• Capable of undertaking robotic emergency de-docking procedure and open conversion in the event of a surgical emergency such as uncontrolled haemorrhage or cardiac arrest To provide support and advice to nursing, medical and allied health professional staff in relation to the management of the surgical patient in theatres. Following protocol, ensure through good practice that customer care initiatives are improved and sustained. Act as a resource for expert advice to carers and staff. To lead the provision of care in accordance with Cromwell Hospital policies reflecting current trends and developments in practice. To comply with and participate in the hospital's framework for Clinical Governance within the Department area Ensure that documentation is maintained to the hospital standard What you'll bring: RN 1st level registration - NMC registration or Registered ODP.
