Principal Mechanical Design Engineer at United Living Group
As a Principal Mechanical Design Engineer, you will lead all aspects of project design and delivery, from tender development to project planning and coordination. You will be pivotal in overseeing mechanical design and specification work, ensuring that designs meet project requirements and industry standards. In addition, you will manage the review and approval process of project designs, collaborating with internal teams, subcontractors, and suppliers. You will provide technical leadership in troubleshooting and ensure the proper implementation of project controls, documentation, and procedures. Regular site visits will be conducted to scope, verify, and resolve issues on both potential and active projects, ensuring smooth execution and timely resolution of challenges.
In joining the newly established Design Hub, you will contribute significantly to shaping a world‑class design team, particularly in the water industry. This is a pivotal role, and your contributions could leave a lasting impact on AFECO and the industry at large, especially in a sector as vital and evolving as water management.
Qualifications
* Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field (or equivalent)
* Ideally Chartered Engineer status and membership of professional institutions such as IET, InstMC or CIWEM
* Significant experience in the technical delivery of process plant systems on complex water industry engineering projects
* Excellent project management / organisational skills with ability to multitask and prioritise independently
* Attention to First principles in design phase and consistently inquisitive to reduce complexity / cost and assembly time
* Strong written and verbal communication skills
* Excellent computer literacy – Microsoft Suite etc.
* Experience developing junior team members and taking a pastoral role in their development, focusing on good practice and engineering rigor
* CAD expertise and experience preferable – AUTOCAD/SolidWorks/Inventor/Revit
* Prototyping experience and a passion for trying new ideas
* Experience working within and implementing a PDM system for drawing control and best practices
* Field / practical experience – comfortable onsite, diligent in recording key measurements/findings, and communicating findings clearly
* Excellent CDM and health and safety knowledge and application
* Positive “can do” attitude with a flexible approach to work
* Proactive in the face of challenges and comfortable taking the lead in conflict/problem resolution
* Excellent personal presentation
* Driving licence preferable (full, clean)
* CSCS card preferable
