The Director of Contracts is responsible for overseeing the whole life cycle of contracts, ensuring compliance with legal requirements, and undertaking negotiations which align with the organisations goals. The Contracts Director is a senior position supporting the Managing Director in the operations of the contracts from pre-Construction stage to delivery of the projects up to practical completion and beyond to the expiry of the defects liability period.
Heyrod Construction primary sector is delivering from the ground up including substructures to completion of the frame into the superstructure. This covers ground works from pile caps upwards covering various sectors of work from education, Health, office and residential, in particular high-rise development. Whilst it is not essential, it will be helpful for the candidate to have an understanding of the operational process of the works.
Whilst the role is operational, the candidate must have a good commercial background which includes an understanding of the legalities of the contract which include mainly JCT and NEC contracts. The understanding of the clauses within the Contracts are important so that they implemented within the prescribed timescales. However, a good relationship must be maintained as and when it becomes necessary to provide notifications to the client. The motto in Heyrod is a client today and a client tomorrow. Sometimes, it is a fine line of judgement as and when these clauses are utilised.
The candidate should have good reasoning skills, an understanding of the building process so that he/she can articulate the process of delivery and be able provide solutions to problems that arise during the construction process at a pre and during the construction period.
The candidate needs to work closely with the Contracts Manager(s) to ensure that information is passed from the Board to operational level on the sites. A good positive culture needs to be maintained at all level whether on site or the office.
