Shared Lives and Short Breaks Carer
We are looking for caring individuals across Glasgow to become Shared Lives and Short Breaks Carers. Shared Lives provides short‑break, transitional and long‑term arrangements for individuals aged 16 and over who require care and support because of disability, conditions or support needs. The role is similar to that of a Foster Carer, helping people who need extra help to live in their own community and live their life to the full, without having to live alone.
Responsibilities
* Support the individual in your own home, family and community life.
* Assist with day‑to‑day activities and care needs as appropriate.
* Encourage independence and participation in community life.
* Maintain regular communication with the Shared Lives link worker and attend scheduled visits.
* Participate in ongoing training opportunities and 24/7 on‑call support.
Qualifications
* Patience, empathy and a sense of humour.
* Strong communication skills and an ability to build supportive relationships.
* Honesty, integrity and a genuine desire to make a difference to the lives of others.
* Ability to provide a safe and welcoming environment for an adult who may have additional support needs.
Application Process
* Must undergo mandatory checks, including an application form, home visits and an interview with our assessment panel.
* All Carers are required to join the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme through Disclosure Scotland.
* Carers who have spent more than 12 months out of the UK (excluding France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Lithuania, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania or Spain) within the last 10 years after the age of 18 must provide a criminal record certificate.
Shared Lives Carers are self‑employed and receive a generous allowance with additional help towards household costs. Voluntary carers enjoy regular support from our team, a dedicated link worker, training opportunities and ongoing contact.
