Offer description

About us

We’re a collaborative and forward-thinking Communications Team, proud to help tell the Council’s story and connect with our communities.

Our work supports everything from local services and community initiatives to major change programmes linked to Vale 2030. We value openness, creativity and learning, and we support each other to grow – sharing ideas early, learning from feedback and celebrating progress along the way.

Ambitious - Forward thinking, embracing new ways of working and investing in our future.
Open - Open to different ideas and being accountable for the decisions we take.
Together - Working together as a team that engages with our customers and partners, respects diversity and is committed to quality services.
Proud - Proud of the Vale of Glamorgan; proud to serve our communities and to be part of the Vale of Glamorgan Council.

About the role

Pay Details: Grade - Apprentice SPC N/A - Minimum wage 21 + £23,557

This apprenticeship helps you learn real-world communications and share important information with our communities.

You’ll learn to create digital content, manage social media, and support campaigns so residents understand what the Council does. Your work supports Vale 2030: Strong Communities with a Bright Future.

This role is designed as a supportive starting point. You’ll build confidence, develop useful, transferable skills and gain experience that can open doors to future opportunities in communications, digital or engagement roles – whether that’s with the Council or beyond.

About you

We’re not looking for someone who already knows everything. We’re looking for someone who is curious, motivated and keen to learn.

This role could be a great fit if you:

1. Enjoy writing, creating or sharing content
2. Are interested in social media, digital platforms or public engagement
3. Like learning by doing and want to build confidence in a supportive team
4. Are organised, reliable and open to feedback
5. Want a role where your work has a real purpose and community impact

You’ll start with guidance and support and gradually build independence as your skills and confidence grow.
