Job Advert: Alternative Provision Quality Assurance Officer (Short-Term Assignment) Duration: 4 months Rate: £475 per day umbrella Working pattern: Average 3 days per week on-site in Alternative Provision (AP) settings across Swindon Our local authority client is seeking an experienced Alternative Provision Quality Assurance Officer to support the implementation of the Peopletoo plan and strengthen oversight of education delivered in AP settings. This short-term but high-impact role will work closely with the new AP Operational Lead and the Commissioning Team to ensure the quality, safety and appropriateness of education provided to children and young people (CYP) accessing AP. This is an urgent requirement as the LA must meet new government policy guidance and statutory duties relating to AP. Currently, SBC does not hold accurate or consistent information on CYP accessing AP, referral pathways, or the quality of provision—this role will be instrumental in addressing these gaps. Key Responsibilities Develop a comprehensive QA framework for AP settings across the local authority. Review, record and quality-assure the education offers across AP provisions, initially focusing on the local authority’s approved provider list. Gather, analyse and maintain data on which CYP are accessing which AP settings, establishing clear and sustainable recording processes. Identify and report strengths and areas for development across AP practice, designing feedback tools, templates and discussion frameworks. Work collaboratively with the Commissioning Team, schools and AP providers to support an aligned, robust QA process. Ensure compliance with statutory guidance, including assessing whether CYP are safe and receiving an appropriate, high-quality education offer. Collate and share key findings to give a clear view of AP usage and support the shift towards new national AP reforms. Support AP settings to review their practice, including improving Individual Learning Plans (ILPs) and strengthening collaborative working.We are looking for a professional with: Strong experience in education quality assurance, safeguarding or AP settings. Excellent analytical, organisational and communication skills. Ability to build positive relationships with schools, providers and internal teams.
