Location: WF4 (easily commutable from Wakefield, Barnsley, Huddersfield & surrounding areas)
Pay: £107 – £120 per day
Hours: Monday–Friday, 8:30am–3:30pm
Start Date: 13th of April

Are you passionate about supporting young people with autism and complex needs? We’re recruiting a Learning Support Assistant for a specialist SEN school in WF4, working with learners aged 16–25.
This is a highly rewarding opportunity to support young adults as they develop independence, communication, and essential life skills to prepare for adulthood.
About this role
In this role, you will support the delivery of a personalised, holistic curriculum for learners with Autism and complex needs, focusing on:
1. Communication development using Total Communication approaches, including visual supports and sensory strategies
2. Building independence, life skills, and preparation for adulthood
3. Supporting emotional regulation, wellbeing, and positive behaviour
4. Delivering engaging, sensory-based and experiential learning activities
5. Working towards EHCP outcomes through tailored, needs-led planning
6. Encouraging both structured learning and learner-led engagement
What You’ll Be Doing
7. Supporting learners on a 1:1 basis or in small groups
8. Assisting with structured, practical, and sensory learning sessions
9. Promoting independence, confidence, and functional life skills
10. Supporting behaviour and emotional regulation in a calm, consistent manner
11. Using communication tools such as Makaton, PECS, or visual symbols
12. Working closely with teaching staff, therapists, and support teams
13. Supporting with personal care where required
What We’re Looking For
14. Experience supporting individuals with SEN, autism, or complex needs
15. A patient, resilient, and compassionate approach
16. Strong communication and teamwork skills
17. A commitment to a full-time, term-time role
18. Backgrounds in SEN, care, youth work, psychology, or support work are highly valued
19. Team Teach training is desirable but not essential
