The role
Westminster School is looking for a well-organised and methodical Graduate Trainee Librarian to assist with the daily running of the school library. This is a fixed-term role designed to provide valuable experience for graduates who are considering a career in librarianship and preparing to apply for, or complete, a recognised postgraduate course in Library and Information Science or similar sector.
The successful candidate will play an active role in maintaining a calm, comfortable and welcoming environment in our library, ensuring an information-rich space for students to study and read from. They will be the first point of contact at the Issue Desk at the start of each day, assisting with issuing, renewing and returning books, dealing with enquiries, and ensuring the library remains well-stocked, tidy and well-organised.
A passion for literature and reading will be key, as there will be the opportunity to host a student book group and produce a monthly Library Newsletter to share with the school community. The successful candidate will also have the chance to work in the library at our Under School, broadening their experience and understanding of library services in different settings.
About you
This role is ideal for a graduate of any discipline who is committed to developing their professional skills. Strong interpersonal, communication and organisational skills are essential, along with a collaborative approach and a genuine enthusiasm for supporting students and staff. Prior library experience is not required, as training and mentoring will be provided by a qualified Librarian throughout your time with us.
