Overview
Consultant Paediatrician role at Wye Valley NHS Trust, Herefordshire. The department provides a comprehensive paediatric service with a focus on resident consultant-delivered care and opportunities for development. The post is based at Hereford County Hospital, with potential clinics in surrounding market towns and some travel between sites.
Job responsibilities
* Join a team of paediatric consultants to provide care to the children and families of Herefordshire and surrounding areas.
* Deliver first-class paediatric medicine within a supportive team and offer a comprehensive range of services.
* Work within a model where consultants are resident on call at night; evening and weekend cover is supported by middle grades. Daytime activity is adjusted to provide time off during the week.
* Involvement in on-the-job development of special interests and leadership opportunities; participation in leadership development and education directorate activities; opportunities for research.
Essential qualifications & experience
* Full GMC registration with licence to practise
* MBBS or equivalent
* MRCPCH (by examination) or equivalent
* Entry on the GMC Specialist Register via CCT (proposed CCT date within 6 months of interview) or CESR
* Competent to work without direct supervision
* General paediatrics and neonatal background with practical skills
* APLS or equivalent (within past 4 years)
* Valid BLS training
* Neonatology experience (minimum 1 year, including 6 months in a level 3 unit) with up-to-date neonatal clinical skills
* NLS or equivalent (within past 4 years)
* Community Paediatrics experience (6 months at ST4 level or equivalent)
* Child safeguarding with Level 3 safeguarding training in the past 12 months
* Clear communication skills in English (written and spoken)
* Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team and supervise juniors
Desirable qualifications & experience
* Higher degree (BSc, MSc, MD, PhD)
* Management experience or training; involvement in teaching and supervision
* Knowledge of clinical governance and broader NHS agenda
* Academic or research involvement and publications
Other requirements
* Proficient IT skills
* Ability to fulfil travel requirements of the post
