Raptor Photonics provides world-class cameras to the scientific and surveillance markets. We are seeking a CTO to provide strategic technical leadership across our business. The role involves communicating with employees, stakeholders, and customers to ensure appropriate use of our technologies. Strong strategic thinking and business acumen are essential. The ideal candidate will be well-versed in current technological trends and familiar with various business concepts.
Key Responsibilities
1. Develop strategies for future projects aligned with the company's objectives and resources, including a product roadmap for the next 5 years focusing on new sensors and product diversification based on sales data and technology trends.
2. Leverage the R&D team and collaborations to create innovative products.
3. Manage the engineering team and drive multiple projects (average 30-40) to completion, ensuring proper resourcing and workload prioritization. Contract values range from £1M-5M.
4. Hire engineers, coordinate training, and demonstrate strong people management skills, including performance management and motivating top performers.
5. Prepare and manage the engineering department’s budget.
6. Present technical papers at international conferences such as Defence and Commercial Sensing (DCS), Photonics West, and DSEI.
Key Skills & Experience
1. BEng/MEng in Electronics or a related field.
2. Proven experience as a CTO or in a similar leadership role within an engineering department, with success in technological growth and product development.
3. Strong understanding of current and emerging technological advancements, with a track record of developing innovative strategies aligned with organizational goals.
4. Expertise in conducting technological analyses and research to inform decision-making.
5. Experience managing project budgets and developing business strategies to meet client obligations while optimizing efficiency.
6. Proficiency in managing budgets and creating strategic plans for sustainable growth.
7. Experience in developing 3-5 year strategic plans.
8. Proven project management skills ensuring successful project delivery.
9. Experience with CCD/CMOS/SWIR cameras or similar industry.
10. Experience with grants and funding, such as Invest NI.
