This is an opportunity to join our IT team and would be an ideal first step into Business Intelligence for the right person.
This is a fixed term post for 24 months.
Torbay Council is a diverse Unitary Authority comprised of three coastal Devon towns: Torquay, Paignton and Brixham. Residents enjoy easy access to numerous beaches and tourist attractions, as well as having Dartmoor National Park virtually on the doorstep.
The successful candidate will fulfil an important role within the Council’s IT department, supporting the corporate implementation of Microsoft Power BI within the Council by converting existing Crystal Reports to Power BI.
You will be working closely with Council colleagues at all levels to ensure that Power BI reports and dashboards are delivered in an appropriate, timely and secure manner.
Practical knowledge of using Microsoft Power BI or basic data analysis in a business environment is not essential as product specific training and mentoring will be available to the successful candidate. Basic knowledge of the SQL language, Crystal Reports, and Microsoft Excel would be of benefit.
You will be capable of handling conflicting priorities whilst working to tight deadlines and supporting a range of activities.

Skills
Essential:
* Demonstrates an interest in IT and Business Intelligence, including an awareness of the opportunities offered by IT technology.
* Ability to learn new technical skills quickly.
* Good organisational and multi-tasking skills.
* Analytical and innovative.
* Ability to actively engage and explain technical information to IT colleagues, service users and external contacts at all levels.
As this post meets the requirements of the Immigration Act 2016 (part 7), the ability to converse at ease with members of the public and provide advice in accurate spoken English is essential for the post.
Knowledge
Essential:
* Will have a basic knowledge of Business Intelligence tools. Mentoring by experienced Power BI Report Writers, and training will be provided.
* Will have a theoretical understanding of relational databases, data warehousing and structured data.
* Will have an awareness of the fundamentals of data security.
Experience & Qualifications
Essential:
* Will have experience of using at least one BI reporting tool (not necessarily in a production/live environment).
* Will have experience of data analysis (not necessarily in a work environment).
