Job overview

We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic Occupational Therapist to work in the Community Children’s Occupational Therapy team, based at Green Wrythe Lane Clinic.

The successful candidate will work closely with established multi-professional teams within Sutton Health and Care and with outside services to deliver Occupational Therapy assessment, advice and treatment to meet the functional needs of children.

You will be flexible, organised and creative with good IT skills, and enjoy working collaboratively with other team members to support children and young people. You should also have excellent written and verbal communication skills.

We are committed to professional development, and offer regular in-service training, peer group and one to one supervision. You will be supported by a senior OT and there will be opportunities to develop the skills required for this post.

Main duties of the job

·To provide a paediatric OT service and be responsible for a clinical caseload of children with a Sutton GP

·To use standardised and non standardised assessment, interview and observation skills to determine needs of children and effectively set goals and plan intervention

·To manage a defined caseload ensuring time management to enable effective service provision.

·To carry out assessments and interpret a range of factors relating to the child’s condition, including implications for access to education, functional skills at home and the wider community

·To contribute to the development of material that enables clients to understand and self manage their condition whenever possible, and supports continuation of programmes in the child’s environments

·To recommend, provide or advise on provision of basic equipment and take responsibility for demonstrating and training clients / carers in its usage.

·To have a full understanding of the workings of any equipment and ensure regular checks are completed to maintain safety

·To communicate assessment findings and treatment plans with service users

·To provide written, typed and / or verbal reports to referrers and other agencies involved in clients’ care and keep accurate up-to-date records.

·To monitor the effectiveness of intervention through goal setting, outcome measurement and evaluation of practice and communicate this information to relevant parties.

Essential criteria

1. Degree in OT and registered with HCPC

Desirable criteria

2. Previous experience of assessment and treatment of children with functional needs

3. Knowledge/experience in paediatric OT or appropriate experience in other OT settings which brings relevant transferable skills.
4. Able to demonstrate a sound understanding of the OT process in a variety of settings

5. Knowledge / experience in the use of relevant assessment and treatment approaches and practices, including the use of standardised assessments.
6. Experience of working with children with ASD, neurological conditions, coordination disorders and functional needs
