Overview
We're looking for a patient, creative, and supportive tutor to work with a Year 8 student who needs help re-engaging with education, particularly in Maths and English. They have SEN needs (ADHD and possible ASD, not formally diagnosed) and have struggled to stay focused in lessons, leading to a loss of interest in these subjects.
Approach
This role relies heavily on a mentoring-based approach. The priority is relationship-building, emotional safety, and helping the student feel supported and understood. Academic learning will be introduced slowly and only at the student’s pace, once trust and confidence have been established.
Responsibilities
* Provide calm, nurturing, mentoring-focused sessions
* Build trust before introducing academic content
* Make learning fun and accessible through creative, tailored activities
* Boost confidence and motivation in core subjects
* Adapt lessons to the student’s mood, interests, and emotional readiness
Requirements
* Have experience supporting students with SEN
* Can confidently combine mentoring with flexible learning
* Are patient, empathetic, and skilled at making sessions engaging
* Understand the value of slow, relationship-led academic re-engagement
* Have 6 months experience within a UK education setting

* Subjects: Maths & English (Year 8 level, introduced gradually)
* Location: DT11
* Hours: 8 hours per week (flexible)
* Pay: £25-£30 per hour depending on experience
