We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Deputy Head of Nutrition and Dietetics to join our leadership team within Swansea Bay University Health Board. This is an exciting opportunity to play a pivotal role in shaping and delivering high-quality nutrition and dietetic services across our diverse population.
This is a permanent, full time (working 37.5 hours per week) post and will be based in Neath Port Talbot Hospital but you will be required to work across the Health Board.
Main duties of the job
As Deputy Head, you will provide strategic and operational leadership, supporting the Head of Nutrition and Dietetics in managing large, multi-disciplinary teams. You will lead on service development, workforce planning, financial management and quality improvement initiatives, ensuring compliance with clinical governance and national standards. You will work alongside the Head of Service ensuring our teams deliver safe, effective, and person-centred care. Your role will champion innovation, inclusion, and continuous improvement, aligned with the health board values.

Qualifications & Knowledge
Essential criteria
1. Registered with the Health Care Professions Council BSc (Hons) Nutrition and Dietetics degree or equivalent.
2. MSc or equivalent level of advanced post registration training
3. Teaching qualification, student placement experience and/or clinical educator’s course.
4. Management Leadership qualification or evidence of management development
5. Robust insight in HR processes (recruitment, appraisal, performance management, disciplinary) and workforce planning.
6. In-depth knowledge of clinical governance, audit principles, and national policies relevant to service delivery.
7. Advanced expertise across a wide range of clinical dietetic areas, with ability to critically appraise evidence and solve complex problems.
8. Comprehensive understanding of professional ethics, standards, and multidisciplinary roles.
Experience
Essential criteria
9. Extensive leadership and management experience as a clinical lead, including service development and modernisation.
10. Specialist NHS Dietitian with experience across acute, community, and primary care settings.
11. Experience in clinical planning governance strategy, policy development, and quality/performance management.
12. Experienced in delivering lectures presentations at professional forums.
13. Proven experience in budget management, and project management.
14. Experience of clinical audit, research, and application of Health & Safety risk management.
Aptitude and Abilities
Essential criteria
15. Advanced interpersonal and communication skills with ability to lead, empower, and develop staff.
16. Expertise in behaviour change techniques and motivational interviewing.
17. Strong clinical reasoning and decision-making for complex cases; skilled in negotiation and problem-solving
18. IT literate with effective use of software for analysis and reporting.
19. High-level organisational, coaching, mentoring, and clinical supervision skills.
20. Competent in audit, research, and critical appraisal able to reflect and drive personal and team development.

21. Ability to travel within geographical area timely and work hours flexibly to meet the demands of the service.
