Job Description
The Senior Electrical Engineer is responsible for thedesign, development, and delivery of complex electrical systems and infrastructure. The role involves leadingelectrical engineeringtasks across project phases, providingtechnical expertise,ensuring compliancewith relevant standards, and mentoring junior engineers to driveengineeringexcellence.
Key Responsibilities:
* Lead thedesign, analysis, and specification of electrical systems including LV/HV distribution,control systems,instrumentation, andpower management.
* Ensure compliance with industry standards,regulatory requirements, and safety codes (e.g., BS 7671, IEC, IET Wiring Regulations).
* Produce and review detailedtechnical documentation, including schematics,wiring diagrams, load schedules, anddesignreports.
* Conduct system studies and calculations (e.g., short circuit, load flow, discrimination studies)
* Participate indesignreviews, hazard and operability studies (HAZOP), andtechnicalrisk assessments.
* Support commissioning, testing, andtroubleshootingof electrical systems on-site or in production environments.
* Liaise with otherengineeringdisciplines, project managers, and stakeholders to ensure integrated and efficient solutions.
* Mentor and support junior engineers and contribute totechnicaltraining and knowledge-sharing initiatives.
Work Experience
Qualifications & Experience
* Bachelors degree (minimum) inElectrical Engineeringor related field; Masters degree or Chartered Engineer (CEng) status preferred.
* Typically 8+ years of professional experience inelectrical engineering, ideally within a regulated or complex industry (e.g., nuclear, defense,power generation, infrastructure).
* Strong understanding of electricalsystem design, protection,control, and integration in large-scale projects.
* Knowledge inelectrical designsoftware (e.g.,AutoCAD Electrical,ETAP, Amtech,Revit MEP).
* Thorough understanding of applicable legislation, regulations, and standards (e.g., BS 7671, IEC standards).
* Strong analytical, communication, and leadership skills.
* Experience managingengineeringtasks within a project environment, including estimating and scheduling.
Desirable Attributes:
* Experience with safety-critical or high-integrity systems.
* Familiarity withBuilding Services EngineeringorSCADA/control systems.
* Experience in preparing electrical deliverables for tender or construction packages.
* Knowledge ofCDM Regulationsand experience working withinISO 9001/14001/45001 environments.
