Project Controller Intern

Irvine, CA or Melbourne, FL (Onsite)

Position Summary

Thales is looking for a Project Controller Intern who will work under the responsibility of the Project Control Manager and will support in a variety of tasks, including but not limited to: financial planning and analysis, budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, project tracking, completing periodic reports. Through the internship, you will develop an understanding of Program & Corporate Finance and take part to business operations analysis processes under Thales / Accounting and Business compliance duties.

In this position, you will also gain and apply technical skills & knowledge in a complex environment contributing to timely and accurate closing milestones.

Key Areas of Responsibility

1. Responsible for program reviews: planning, tracking, analysis, and reporting. Build scenario analysis to explain the financial impacts whenever requested.
2. Highlight / manage program risks and opportunities in conjunction with Program Managers; Partner with all levels of the Programs Department and Bid Finance to ensure robust financials and operational governance from project set up through to project delivery.
3. Supporting Sales and Bid Management by making financial assessments on new opportunities and qualifying the return on investment through scenario analysis; Supporting the Thales bid gate 0-3 process to ensure that all financial processes are adhered to and validated in accordance with documented procedures of Thales Group; Deliver program financials within contractual baselines: full scope of programs captured, and risks/opportunities are identified.
4. Prepare program financial baselines - Initial budget, validate changes and maintain updated business plans over the life of each program with appropriate tracking of assumptions and related variances analysis; Forecasting for all monthly and multi-year budgets (MYB) to include revenue and gross margin for all programs in his/her project portfolio; Ensure all costs against programs and departments are properly recorded, reconciled and analyzed.
5. Coordinate with Program Management, Finance, Accounts Receivable to ensure that all the components of revenue are accounted for in accordance with the contractual terms: billing, credit, rebate; Evaluate and assess program contingencies and program efficiency metrics, reviewing trends and providing forward looking analysis; Accountable for ensuring all program financials are consistent with all internal policies & procedures.
6. Support internal and external auditors' reviews and ensures that full documentation and account reconciliations, including but not limited to, program estimates at completion, are provided in a timely manner.

Minimum Qualifications

7. Bachelor’s degree prep in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (MBA or CPA preferred).
8. Interest for Corporate finance, Business operations.
9. Basics in Balance sheet items, Working Capital optimization.
10. Basics of Profit & Loss Statement report below Commercial Margin.

Special Position Requirements

11. Schedule: Core Business Hours, Monday-Friday, may be eligible to participate in 9/80, may be required to work during holidays if requested by business.
12. Physical Environment: General office & warehouse environment.
13. Physical Demands: Generally not required, or up to 10 pounds occasionally, 0 pounds frequently.
14. Travel: Potential travel up to but no greater than 25%.
