Chemotherapy Nurse

We have a fixed term band 6 nursing post in our day unit team at the West Middlesex site, part of a newly built Chemotherapy unit opening autumn 2026.
Some roles may require weekend shifts at multiple sites. The successful candidate must possess excellent communication skills, a high sense of professionalism and a strong belief in the value of teamwork.
Job Responsibilities
* Serve as a member of the Haematology/Oncology day unit team at West Middlesex Hospital.
* Ensure safe, effective delivery of chemotherapy and co‑medications, with appropriate follow‑up and monitoring according to recognised local, national and Joint Management Guidelines.
* Provide supportive treatments to patients with malignant and non‑malignant haematological diseases.
* Support the Chemotherapy Nursing team in delivering educational programmes to nurses and non‑oncology specialist staff involved in patient care.
* Assist the Operational Manager with day‑to‑day management and development of the nurse‑led chemotherapy clinic service.
* Manage a caseload of patients within the nurse‑led chemotherapy service, applying Joint Management Guidelines.
* Demonstrate knowledge of disease areas and anti‑cancer medications used in specific disease sites.
* Provide information and advice to patients and their carers regarding cancer and its treatment, including guidance on reporting problems and seeking advice outside clinic hours.
* Perform phlebotomy, cannulation and venesection after appropriate training and competency assessment.
* Ensure all relevant treatment, care and investigations are carried out before chemotherapy implementation and complete all required documentation, including variances.
* Establish effective communication links with patients, carers and all multidisciplinary team members.
* Promote patient/carer independence through teaching and support.
* Organise study days and educational programmes to raise awareness of holistic patient needs.
* Develop resource and teaching packs for patients and staff.
* Ensure appropriate written information is available to patients and staff.
* Participate in ongoing educational programmes and evaluate the need for patient support groups.
* Utilise up‑to‑date research findings in patient care and disseminate knowledge to multidisciplinary team members.
* Participate in relevant research studies and audits, and disseminate findings to inform best practice.
* Identify opportunities for nursing research in the specialty and carry out suitable research.
* Regularly audit the service, incorporating patient, carer and professional feedback into service development.
* Attend relevant departmental, directorate and network meetings on clinical governance and contribute to the agenda.
* Maintain and develop professional knowledge and compliance with the NMC Code of Professional Conduct.
Qualifications
* Registered Nurse (RN) with current NMC registration.
* Chemotherapy qualification or equivalent training.
* Degree level education.
* Enhanced or advanced communication skills training.
* Haematology or oncology qualification.
* Teaching module or equivalent qualification.
Experience
* Minimum 1 year post‑qualification at band 6 level.
* Experience in oncology or haematology nursing.
Skills
* Cannulation.
* Venepuncture.
