- £39k based on experience overtime opportunities We are a well-established precision engineering company seeking skilled CNC Milling Setter/Operators, ideally with programming experience, to join our growing production team.
This is an excellent opportunity for experienced machinists who take pride in producing high-quality components to tight tolerances and want to work in a clean, modern workshop with advanced CNC machinery.
About the Role You will set, operate, and program CNC milling machines to manufacture precision-engineered components in a variety of materials.
Youll work from detailed engineering drawings and CAD data to deliver quality, efficiency, and repeatability across small and medium batch runs.
Key Responsibilities Set up CNC milling machines, including tooling, fixtures, offsets, and work holding.
Program via Hypermill CAM software or directly at the machine (Fanuc, Heidenhain, Siemens, or other).
Operate 3-, 4-, or 5-axis CNC machines to produce precision components.
Monitor production for accuracy, repeatability, and surface finish.
Adjust and optimise machining programs to improve cycle times, tool life, and production efficiency.
Interpret complex engineering drawings and 3D models.
Perform in-process and final inspection using precision tools (micrometres, verniers, height gauges, CMM where applicable).
Carry out routine machine maintenance and adhere to all safety and housekeeping standards.
What Were Looking For Essential: Proven experience as a CNC Milling Setter/Operator in a precision machining environment.
Ability to set machines from scratch, select tooling, and work independently.
Strong knowledge of CNC controls (Fanuc / Heidenhain / Siemens).
Proficiency in reading and interpreting engineering drawings and GD&T.
Skilled in using measurement tools for close-tolerance inspection.
Attention to detail and a methodical approach to problem-solving.
Desirable: Ability to program using CAM software ( Hypermill preferred) or at the machine.
Experience with multi-axis (4- or 5-axis) machining centres.
Recognised engineering qualifications (Apprenticeship, NVQ, City & Guilds, HNC/HND).
