SEN Teaching Assistant
Location: York, North Yorkshire
Salary: £89 – £110 per day
Contract: Full-time, Term Time Only
Start Date: Immediate / November 2025
GSL Education is working in partnership with an Alternative Provision in York to recruit a compassionate and resilient SEN Teaching Assistant to support learners within the KS4 ASC provision on a full-time basis.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone with experience supporting young people with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, or other complex learning differences, who is passionate about helping students achieve their potential in an inclusive and nurturing environment.
Your Role as an SEN Teaching Assistant:
* Support KS4 students with autism in small group and 1:1 settings, promoting engagement, communication, and independence.
* Work alongside teachers and the SEN team to deliver personalised learning and structured routines.
* Use strategies such as visual aids, sensory breaks, and emotional regulation tools to reduce barriers to learning.
* Build trusting relationships with students, fostering a sense of safety, consistency, and achievement.
* Support with behaviour regulation, emotional wellbeing, and social interaction development.
As the Ideal Candidate, you will have:
* Experience supporting young people with ASC, SEMH, or complex needs (school or care setting).
* Calm, empathetic, and adaptable with strong communication skills.
* Confident in using de-escalation and positive behaviour management techniques.
* A genuine passion for supporting children and young people to thrive.
