Redditch United Football Club, founded in 1891 as Redditch Town, is one of the Midlands' oldest football clubs. Initially competing in the Birmingham Combination League, the club won the Worcestershire Senior Cup in 1894 and made early FA Cup appearances. In 1971, the club adopted its current name and joined the Southern League. The club achieved notable success in the mid-1970s, winning the Southern League Division One North in the 1975-76 season, earning promotion to the Premier Division. They were also founder members of the Alliance Premier League in 1979 but struggled in the higher tier, leading to relegation back to the Southern League Midland Division. In the 2003-04 season, Redditch United secured the Southern League Western Division title and gained promotion to the Conference North. However, financial difficulties led to their relegation from the National League North in 2011. The club's home ground, The Valley Stadium, has undergone significant improvements, including the installation of a state-of-the-art 3G playing surface in 2016, funded by a £900,000 investment. This upgrade also enhanced changing facilities and supported the development of a full-time academy offering educational programs alongside football training. Redditch United has a strong community focus, operating various youth development programs such as the "Future Reds" development centre, which provides football training for children from reception age to Year 6. Additionally, the club became the home of England Walking Football in 2022, hosting training sessions and international match days for players aged 40 and above. Currently competing in the Southern League Premier Central, Redditch United continues to be a vital part of the local community, combining a rich footballing heritage with a commitment to youth development and community engagement.
