We are looking for someone to join our Roost on a part-time basis for an initial fixed term period of 6 months. The successful candidate will be working 3 days on 3 days off, shifts to be confirmed with on-site manager. Our new Caretaker will become a key part of our existing, friendly and experienced property team at our Home Park property in Bournemouth.

Hours: Average of 18.75 hours per week, 3 days on 3 days off rotation.

Salary: £12,285.00 per annum (£12.60 per hour)

Are you someone who prides themselves on ensuring an environment is not only safe, but the best it can possibly be? Our Caretakers are just that: individuals who take care of our buildings, providing not only safe spaces for our residents and team members, but also going over and above to keep our buildings well-maintained and looking fantastic.

Responsibilities

* You will be the engine room of the property, working alongside the team and responding to urgent maintenance issues with confidence. Even if you cannot fix the problem, you can report it swiftly.
* Every student is different and so are the teams that work in our properties. Don’t leave your personality at the door and please bring your whole self to work – it’s this ‘you’ we want to see every day.
* We never walk past a problem and you will take pride in the day-to-day maintenance of the property, with a strong focus on customer service, attention to detail and a respectful approach that comes with working in someone’s home.
* Adopt a consistent and unrelenting approach to ensuring that your property is safe, through accurate and detailed compliance checks and swift reporting of non-compliance.
* Have a keen eye for anything that needs repairing or replacing, from painting to putting up shelves, unblocking drains to stopping leaks.
* Develop a keen understanding of planned preventative maintenance at your property and become your site\'s go-to for PPM queries.
* You’ll be happy to get your hands dirty by managing your property’s bin store area and taking the lead to ensure contaminated waste is correctly disposed of.
* Get off to the Best Start Ever and learn the Student Roost way of doing things. Our online learning platform will make sure you’re equipped with all the skills you need and we’ll offer you the opportunity to attend in person training courses to develop your skills too.
* Understand that safety and welfare are never overlooked so you must be able to use all equipment safely and efficiently, as well as escort, monitor and assist the quality of work of contracted landscapers and specialist engineers attending site.
* Be your building’s maintenance expert, learning the quirks that make your site unique and the areas of your property that require additional care.
* Work closely with the site manager and assistant manager to ensure any maintenance issues that require a third-party contractor are raised and reported and that planned preventative maintenance is carried out in line with the appropriate timescales.
* Our value Be Bold, Be Heard instils an open culture where we want to hear new ideas and how we can implement solutions to improve.

The Us / About the Employer

So you know what we’re looking for, but what are you looking for from your next employer? Sure, Student Roost has a portfolio of purpose-built student accommodation properties across the UK – but more than that, Student Roost is its people.

While we strive to put our residents first, our people also include those at the heart of what we do: the property teams, Night Owls, support staff, HQ teams and more who help to keep ours a 24/7/365-day home away from home for everyone who chooses to live with us. We ask that you seek to make a difference every day you show up, and in return we’ll show up for you by rewarding what’s right, supporting you in your career growth and aspirations, and championing the unique qualities and ideas that only you can bring to the business.

Simply put: you do you, so we grow together.

Challenges

* There is a lot of statutory compliance jobs with this role, to make sure we are keeping our residents safe, so sometimes it might feel a little repetitive.
* Summer turnaround: This is when our residents leave us and it’s the busiest time in our calendar. It can involve clearing out residents’ rooms, supporting with higher than usual levels of maintenance, and just generally helping out.

Please note that as part of our safety first culture – this role is subject to requiring a Basic DBS check as part of our pre-employment checks.
