Consultant in Microbiology
We are looking to appoint a Consultant in Microbiology to further develop our highly rated services at Chesterfield Royal Hospital. This is an exciting opportunity, and it is anticipated that there will be occasion for the appointee to develop a sub‑specialty interest within the role.
You will become part of a team responsible for the medical supervision of the Trust’s microbiology department and infection control processes.
Applications are welcome from infection specialists, including Microbiologists, Infectious Diseases Doctors, and Consultant Clinical Scientists.
Out of Hours Commitment
The out of hours commitment will be worked on a 1 in 5 basis following successful recruitment. Out of hours cover is a telephone advice service for laboratory or clinical staff; there is currently no requirement to attend the laboratory at weekends, with authorising done remotely.
Clinical Roles
Clinical roles will be mutually agreed between the Microbiology consultants. Each will take a lead in different areas (antimicrobial stewardship, infection control, laboratory management, OPAT) and provide cross‑cover for colleagues where required. Roles will be shared and rotated at mutually convenient intervals.
Potential for Further Services
There may be scope to develop infection services further, such as an infection consult service and OPAT provision, depending on the candidate’s skills and preferences.
Benefits
Benefits include on‑site parking, local discounts, on‑site café, Amazon lockers, cycle‑to‑work scheme, electric vehicle charging points, a dedicated wellbeing hub with mindfulness rooms, gym and shower facilities, and various programmes to keep staff active.
