Job Title: Healthcare Assistant – Sexual Health Service
Location: Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (including Aintree University Hospital, Broadgreen Hospital & Royal Liverpool University Hospital)
Responsibilities
* Provide and maintain an efficient and safe environment for clients and staff, reporting any potential safety issues to an appropriate team member and making suggestions for service improvement, according to Trust and service policies and procedures.
* Maintain high standards of infection control procedures according to Trust and service policies.
* Maintain client confidentiality at all times according to Trust and service policies.
* Act as a chaperone taking into account cultural and religious beliefs, as directed by clinical staff, whilst promoting a positive image of the service.
* Prioritise own workload and organise work on a daily basis to ensure the smooth running of the service.
* Identify, report (and contribute to recording) to an appropriate team member any child protection and vulnerable adult issues observed during duties, according to legislation & Trust policy.
* Prepare equipment and clinical environment, and assist at clinical procedures as appropriate.
* Report sickness, absence and any accident/incident to the clinical manager or his/her deputy.
* Work within the community clinical settings.
* Undertake pregnancy testing & venepuncture and any other procedure which falls within knowledge and competencies under the guidance and supervision of clinical staff.
* Manage fast‑track clinics using electronic patient records, ensuring all episodes are entered and coded safely and efficiently.
* Ensure all samples/specimens are recorded and transported in a timely and appropriate manner, according to service policy, and report any discrepancies to an appropriate team member.
* Maintain stock (clinical supplies) levels, identifying and reporting any discrepancies or cost savings to service manager.
* Ensure a clean and tidy environment within the clinical area and maintain housekeeping throughout.
* Support clinical delivery alongside dedicated sexual health clinical practitioners, providing sexual health advice which supports the care, emotional well‑being and education of patients.
Education and Experience
* Educated to GCSE level or equivalent.
* NVQ2 (healthcare).
* Care Certificate or equivalent experience.
* Evidence of working at or ability to achieve NVQ3 Level.
* Demonstrable experience working at Band 2 within a healthcare setting.
* Previous experience of working with the public and/ or young people.
* Good interpersonal and communication skills both written and verbal.
* Ability to communicate well with vulnerable people from varying backgrounds and abilities and liaise with the multi‑disciplinary teams.
* Evidence of ability to relate to the needs of young people.
* Ability to work flexibly within a changing/evolving organisation.
* Ability to work unsupervised, under own initiative and to self‑motivate.
* Willingness to undertake expanded roles including venepuncture, basic sample collection, point of care testing (e.g. pregnancy testing), microscopy and other tasks necessary to development of the role following appropriate training.
* Knowledge of child protection / vulnerable adult issues.
* Understanding of confidentiality.
* Ability to travel between sites (internal & external).
* IT skills (e‑mail, Outlook, Microsoft Word).
* UK professional registration (appropriate).
Desirable Criteria
* Previous experience of working in other areas of sexual health or related services, general understanding of sexual health.

* Trust policy requires that the cost of submitting & processing the successful applicant’s DBS application be recovered via salary deduction following start in post. Standard disclosure: £26.50, enhanced disclosure: £54.50, payable in up to 3 monthly instalments.

Visa & Sponsorship
Under current Home Office Immigration Rules, the Trust is unable to offer visa sponsorship for Band 2 and 3 roles with a salary of less than £25,000. Only applicants who demonstrate clearly how they meet the person specification will be shortlisted for interview.
