Job Summary
The successful candidate will lead a nurse‑led service for managing patients with ophthalmic conditions, providing support to patients, carers, and staff while receiving professional guidance and specialist advice from Ophthalmology Consultants. They will run nurse‑led intravitreal injection clinics, supported by a medical practitioner when necessary, and will be accountable for ensuring patient safety, promoting health, and adhering to infection control and standard operating guidelines. Additionally, the role offers opportunities to rotate through various areas of the Eye Treatment Centre, including clinics, the ward, and the intravitreal injection service.
Main duties
You must provide cover for the intravitreal injection clinics, ensuring patients are fit for procedure and refer to the clinician if not. You will ensure all necessary prescriptions and medications are prescribed prior to treatment and work with a suitable practitioner to assist in making the patient comfortable and reassuring them prior to and during the procedure. The team must follow strict infection control guidelines to enable a safe, effective procedure.
Education and qualifications
* NMC Registration or other Ophthalmic Allied Health Professional Body
* ENB 998 or equivalent Education to Degree level
* Evidence of on‑going professional development
* Non‑Medical Independent and/or supplementary Prescribing Course
Experience and knowledge
* Experience at Band 5/6 in a hospital setting, including in intravitreal services
* Resolving user concerns effectively
* Allied health professional Led Clinics
* Knowledge of how health care organisations work
* Experience evidence of ability to teach/support staff
* Experience of working in an acute hospital setting
* Experience of working in Ophthalmology
* Ability to communicate and work with patients to support medication concordance/compliance with prescribed Treatments
