This is an exciting opportunity to join the Birmingham Mental Health Support Team as a Senior Mental Health Practitioner
The post holder will be an existing registered mental health professional, who will hold responsibility for complex cases, comprehensive mental health assessments, liaison with other services and direct supervision/line management to junior members of the team.
They will be expected to line manage a defined staffing group and hold responsibility for ensuring compliance to statutory training, annual appraisal and staff supervision. They will be required to liaise with other local agencies including education, the STICK team, voluntary sector and social care.
Referrals to the team are accepted from education colleagues and less often, internal services. The post holder will be responsible for ensuring clinical efficiency within the team, ensuring that young people receive timely care.
Families of the referred young people are included in the assessment and on-going management of the cases. This will include the use of a range of evidence based approaches, including cognitive behavioural therapy.
To demonstrate clear leadership and support clinicians to deliver the early help mental health offer for people with emotional and/or mental health problems in schools to receive the best possible care, maximising engagement and improving outcomes.
Undertake professional supervision and caseload management for an agreed number of registered professionals within the team
To effectively line manage an agreed number of staff, ensuring the service is safe and effective
As the senior clinician in the team, working alongside the Clinical Team Managers & Lead Nurse, ensuring the skill set and expertise of individual clinicians is appropriate to the needs of the case load they manage. This will include supervision and appraisals as appropriate, ensuring it is in line with Trust/Directorate standards.
Demonstrate decision-making and problem solving skills as a senior member of the team.
To support the team in developing and building effective communication between community services, wider mental health services and with other agencies and services.
To take appropriate lead action with regard to complaints and reportable incidents within the service as directed by the Trust's complaints and reportable incident policies.
To contribute to and lead on the implementation of local and national objectives.
