Alongside several consortium partners, Balfour Beatty has been selected by bp (British Petroleum) to construct a first‑of‑a‑kind fully integrated gas‑fired power station with carbon capture and storage – a key component of the Net Zero Teesside project. We are looking for a dynamic Mechanical Quality Engineer to contribute to this project at our site in Redcar & Cleveland.
What you’ll be doing
Ensure that the Quality Control requirements of the approved Quality System for the contract are fully implemented and that the quality standards of the appropriate specifications are achieved. The role involves preparing evidence that the quality standards have been met and managing compliance documentation.
* QC Engineer reporting to the Quality Manager
* Promote a Right First Time Culture
* Ensure the quality standards of the business and the client are consistently met and compliant with specifications such as ASME
* Be fully aware of the relevant scope of work, technical specifications and quality standards
* Operate relevant Quality Control procedures to provide evidence that the quality standards have been achieved
* Review quality plans, method statements, procedures, etc. of sub‑contractors to ensure compliance with contract requirements
* Liaise with sub‑contract Engineers and sub‑contractors to ensure that Inspection & Test Plan (ITP) operations are signed as acceptable by the appropriate designated authority and that quality documentation is generated
* Oversee that inspections and tests are carried out in accordance with the ITP and client requirements and that the operation of the quality plan is signed upon acceptance
* Liaise with Engineers, Supervisors, NDT or Heat Treatment Coordinators to prepare and issue formal requests for NDT, heat treatment and testing as applicable
* Assist with the correlation and review of NDT reports, heat treatment charts, test reports, etc., compiling the appropriate quality documentation package
* Ensure that corrective actions are duly recorded and that the end results comply with the technical specifications of the contract
* Ensure that the appropriate quality documentation for any non‑conformances raised is signed and dated on acceptance and retained in the documentation package
* Be fully aware of and monitor the referencing/numbering system applied for all items and the application of the system by all parties, including sub‑contractors
* Review, correlate and compile all quality documentation throughout the contract
* Provide information to the Line Manager to enable analysis of trends and reasons for non‑conformances
Who we’re looking for
We are looking for a candidate who demonstrates strong technical knowledge, attention to detail, and the ability to manage quality processes effectively within complex infrastructure projects.
Minimum Qualifications
* ONC Engineering Craft or equivalent (e.g., City & Guilds Certificate)
* CSWIP / PCN 3.1 Welding Inspector
Preferred Qualifications
* HNC (or equivalent) in Quality Assurance or Engineering with QA components
* Associate Member of the Institute of Quality Assurance (AMIQA)
* Engineering Council Registered Professional Engineer
* Internal Auditors Ticket
* CQI Certificate in Quality Management
* CSWIP Radiographic Interpretation
* CSWIP 3.1 Weld Inspector
Key Competencies
* Knowledge and understanding of ISO 9000 series Quality Standards
* Effective application of BS(EN), ASME and other relevant codes and standards
* Interpretation of engineering drawings and technical specifications
* Effective application of Doosan Babcock Quality procedures
* Strong communication skills
* Effective document management
* Good IT skills
