JOB TITLE: Teacher - Primary
REPORTS TO: Principal
Professional Duties of a Teacher
In accordance with the Teachers’ (Terms and Conditions of Employment) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1987, Schedule 3, Regulation 5, the professional duties include:
1. Exercise of general professional duties: Carrying out professional duties as circumstances require, under the reasonable direction of the principal or the employing board.
2. Exercise of particular duties: Performing duties reasonably assigned by the principal or the board, including planning, teaching, assessment, pastoral care, staff development, discipline, examinations, management activities, and administrative tasks.
Key Responsibilities
1. Planning: Preparing courses and lessons, teaching pupils, and assessing progress.
2. General: Promoting pupils' development, providing advice, maintaining records, communicating with parents and external bodies, participating in meetings.
3. Assessment/Reporting: Contributing to assessments, reports, and references.
4. Staff Development: Participating in staff development schemes, reviewing teaching methods, and contributing to curriculum development.
5. Discipline/Health and Safety: Maintaining order, safeguarding health and safety, participating in school meetings.
6. Public Examinations: Preparing pupils for exams, assessing, recording, and supervising during exams.
7. Management and Administration: Contributing to staff recruitment, managing colleagues, and supporting school activities.
8. Working Hours and Days: Availability for 195 days/year, up to 190 days in classroom, for 1265 hours/year, with specific weekly hours and break requirements.
9. Staff Cover: Supervising pupils in the absence of their teachers, with conditions based on school size and duration of absence.

Section 1 - Essential Criteria
* Qualifications: Recognized teaching qualification for Northern Ireland.
* Experience: Minimum 6 weeks teaching at Foundation Stage or Key Stage 1, with details of schools and dates.
* Additional Experience: Using classroom approaches, supporting diverse learners, professional development, digital media use, and setting targets.
* Registration: With the General Teaching Council for Northern Ireland (GTCNI).
Section 2 - Additional Essential Criteria (to be assessed at interview)
* Knowledge of NI Curriculum, Safeguarding, SEND, teaching strategies, behaviour management, IT, and assessment methods.
* Skills: Effective teaching, classroom management, communication, organization, teamwork, and motivation.
* Values: Reflecting the school's ethos and values.
Section 3 - Desirable Criteria
* Additional experience and professional development, interest in outdoor and play-based learning, involvement in curriculum activities, and teaching experience at different levels.
Disclosure of Criminal Background: Post involves regulated activity. An Enhanced Disclosure will be required, with costs borne by the applicant.
