About the London Youth Games The London Youth Games was launched in 1977 to celebrate the Queen’s Silver Jubilee. Since then, as a registered charitable foundation (Charity Number: 1048705) the Games have provided unique, accessible competitive sporting opportunities to over 1.5 million young Londoners. Nike is a current headline sponsor of the Games. LYG continues to work in close partnership with Sport England, the Greater London Authority, and all London Boroughs and our current title sponsor Nike to continue to bring the LYG to young Londoners, with an innovative physical and virtual programme of events. In an Olympic and Paralympic year, LYG has the potential to reassert its relevance, and to inspire the next generation to start, succeed and stay in sport and physical activity. LYG can boast celebrated alumni such as Alex Scott, Linford Christie, Bradley Wiggins, Dina Asher-Smith and Raheem Sterling. LYG is dedicated to delivering high-quality opportunities. We do this through five main strategic programme pillars. These are the Open Games (Community Sport), School Games (School Sport), LYG 33 (Youth Voice Engagement), Games Force (Volunteering) and, Inclusive Coaches (Coach Development). The organisation recently strengthened its board of directors, which is chaired by former Karate World Champion Geoff Thompson MBE and consists of a number of trustees drawn from both LYG participating London Boroughs, and independent private sector experts.. So, where do you come in? Trustee You will become a member of a Board that has the responsibility of setting the strategic aims and objectives for LYG and ensuring that they are fulfilled while having a hugely positive impact on young people today. We are looking for individuals who are innovative thinkers, who see beyond the now and want to be a part of providing bigger and better sport and physical activity to the young people of London. LYG are looking for the following: Someone who is innovative and has a vision for improving sport for young people in London. Someone with a strong personal or family connection to London. An enthusiastic individual, ideally with a track record of connecting with the youth of London. Someone who can relate to diverse youth communities across London. The ability to commit to 6 Board meetings annually and attendance at some LYG events. An individual with a passion for sport and the positive impact sport can have. Either direct experience of frontline delivery of youth schools' sports in London and/or a qualified professional background in accountancy and finance. Specific Commitments for Trustee with Finance and Accountancy Expertise The successful candidate with Financial and Accounting expertise will: Be an active member of LYG’s Finance, Audit, Risk and Governance committee (additional 4 meetings per year). Have potential to Chair Finance, Audit, Risk and Governance committee. Support Executive with Annual Audit and to be the Board point of contact for auditors.
