About the Role

We seek a Lecturer in Creative Pattern Cutting to contribute to teaching and student experience across a range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. The role supports the advancement of our future‑facing curriculum, active learning environment, and graduate readiness, encouraging students to develop as adaptable, reflective practitioners equipped for evolving industry contexts.

Alongside a contemporary aesthetic you will have the ability to connect advanced construction methods and technical expertise with current fashion systems, including responsible material practices. Drawing on your experience, you will deliver creative workshops that build knowledge and confidence in garment construction, pattern cutting, and prototyping. You will predominantly teach across UG/PG Fashion Design programmes at the Manchester Fashion Institute and contribute towards student progression and satisfaction, and positive graduate outcomes. We encourage and promote practice concerned with the “thinking,” “doing” and “making” of fashion that engages with the real world and current theoretical, social, digital or cultural contexts.

You will also be expected to demonstrate an interest in developing expertise and innovation in the delivery of teaching and/or student experience.


About You


Essential Skills

* Experience of teaching creative pattern cutting and construction in Higher Education within a fashion design context.
* A good first degree together with a PhD in a relevant discipline or equivalent qualifications/industry experience.
* Substantial knowledge and experience in advanced construction methods, pattern cutting methodologies, and garment construction.


Desirable

* A PGCE, Certificate of Education, PGCLTHE or membership of the Higher Education Academy (or commitment to obtain within three years of appointment).
* Membership of relevant professional bodies, demonstrating professional standing.
* Successful dissemination of practice‑based initiatives and innovations, including scholarly outputs (e.g. journal and conference papers, expert presentations, textbooks, monographs, exhibitions or performances).

In some circumstances, we will consider applicants who do not have these qualifications but are committed to obtaining them and have equivalent significant attainment in their professional field.

This is a maternity leave cover. Interviews will take place on the 7th July.
